Founded in Johannesburg in 1999 by a group of professional and business persons, the Komati Foundation is a non-profit organisation actively working to transform South African society in the fields of education, human development, youth policy, social welfare, reconciliation, moral regeneration, spirituality, and culture.  The fundamental aim is to transform and enrich our society by fostering the development of young leaders with outstanding personal integrity, a commitment to professional excellence, and a lively ethic of social and civic engagement.

What distinguishes the Foundation’s ethos and programs from most if not all other development organisations is the recognition that the only way to obtain a virtuous society is to develop virtuous individuals.  The core beliefs and principles that motivate individuals will profoundly affect their relationships, families, colleagues, vocational and professional milieus, etc.  Whilst a plethora of organisations addresses social needs in a great variety of areas, few if any are specifically and actively engaged in engendering a strong ethic of excellence and integrity at the centre of the individual personality.  It is believed that this work, though hard to accomplish and even harder to measure, is of critical importance if South Africa is to develop and sustain a just and humane society.
